A Letter From Grandpa’s Family Farms: When Lawsuits Shake an Entire Industry

At Grandpa’s Family Farms, hemp isn’t just a crop, it's our livelihood. It’s our payroll. It’s our future.

And right now, that future feels heavier than it ever has before.

Recently, MoCann Trade Association filed a lawsuit against 36 hemp retailers across Missouri. While we are not named in that lawsuit, the impact reaches far beyond the businesses listed on paper.

Because when fear enters an industry, it touches everyone.

We Followed the Rules

When hemp became legal, we stepped forward the right way. We built Grandpa’s Family Farms on compliance, transparency, and trust.

We obtained licenses. We paid for testing and retesting. We followed THC limits. We invested in compliant packaging and labeling.

We didn’t ask for shortcuts. We asked for clarity—and we followed it.

What’s happening now isn’t clarity. It’s uncertainty being delivered through lawsuits instead of legislation.

Even When You’re Not Sued, You Still Pay the Price

We may not be in the courtroom—but we feel it every day.

The mood of the hemp industry has changed overnight.

Retailers are scared to place orders. Distributors are freezing purchasing decisions. Farmers are holding inventory they can’t confidently move.

When stores don’t know if they’ll still be open in six months, they stop buying. When they stop buying, farms stop growing. When farms stop growing, employees lose hours—and families lose stability.

This lawsuit didn’t just target 36 stores. It chilled an entire market.

And for small family farms, that uncertainty is dangerous.

It’s About People

Behind every hemp farm is a family.

At Grandpa’s Family Farms, that means:

  • Employees who depend on steady work

  • Families who rely on those paychecks

  • Local vendors we support

  • A rural community that benefits when farms survive

Large corporations can ride out storms like this. Family farms can’t.

We don’t have investors. We don’t have corporate buffers. We have land, hard work, and faith that following the law should count for something.

We Support Smart Regulation—Not Erasure

We believe in responsible hemp.

We support:

  • Age restrictions

  • Product testing

  • Clear labeling

  • Consumer safety

What we cannot survive is having the rules rewritten after years of compliance—without transition plans, without guidance, and without acknowledging the real people who built this industry in good faith.

You don’t fix an industry by freezing it in fear.

Why We’re Standing With the Missouri Hemp Trade Association

Now more than ever, Missouri hemp farmers and businesses need a unified voice.

That’s why we support the Missouri Hemp Trade Association.

They are fighting for:

  • Fair and clear regulations

  • The survival of small farms and retailers

  • A future where compliance is rewarded—not punished

Legal battles are expensive. Advocacy takes resources. And if small farms don’t support the organizations fighting for us, there may not be anyone left to speak when the next decision is made.

If you believe in:

  • Family farms

  • Small Missouri businesses

  • Rural jobs

  • Fair treatment under the law

We encourage you to donate, support, and stand with the Missouri Hemp Trade Association.

This Is Personal

This isn’t politics to us. This isn’t market competition.

This is our farm. Our employees. Our families.

Grandpa’s Family Farms was built with the belief that honesty, compliance, and hard work still matter in Missouri.

We’re asking for fairness. We’re asking for clarity. And we’re asking for a future where family farms aren’t collateral damage.

Because when small farms disappear, Missouri loses more than an industry—it loses its backbone.
